RIVERWALK PROPERTY VISION

The Payette Riverwalk Alliance (PRA) was formed under a shared passion to protect the North Fork of the Payette River through land acquisition that allows for public access. Our intent is to protect these 41 acres of riverfront property from degradation while allowing the surrounding communities to connect with this river ecosystem.

PUBLIC ACCESS

Access to the property is non-motorized and allows for outdoor recreation such as watercraft takeout, walking, skiing, snowshoeing, and fishing. The rules of the property include:

  • No development in perpetuity
  • No unauthorized motor vehicles
  • No access after dark
  • No fires or camping
  • No hunting
  • No commercial activities
  • No parking outside of designated parking areas

SITE MANAGEMENT

CONTROLLING HUMAN IMPACT

Keeping Nature Pristine
  • The PRA has outlined and posted rules of use for the property and will take steps to enforce those rules.
  • The PRA is responsible for continued fundraising to help maintain and protect the property.
  • A Honey Dipper Porta Potty will be available on the site from mid-June to Labor Day so that use can be gauged. The timeline will be shifted if necessary.
  • The wilderness concept of “Pack It In – Pack It Out” is posted and expected for all other waste products.

CONTROLLING NOXIOUS WEEDS

Spotted Knapweed
  • The PRA will utilize bio-control and spraying with Valley County Weed Department Resources through a cost-share program.
  • Noxious Weed control activities will be completed in partnership with the community and volunteers.

FIRE-WISE

  • The PRA will survey the property with firefighting professionals to help prioritize a fire-wise management plan
  • Fire management and fuel-reducing activities will be completed in partnership with the community, volunteers and Payette Land Trust resources.

MOSQUITO ABATEMENT

  • The PRA will utilize non-chemical means for mosquito-abatement, such as installing aerators in ponds when funds become available.
  • In addition, we hope to install bat boxes at the ponds using local volunteers.

SITE RECLAMATION

  • The PRA will develop a strategic plan that includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Ripping compacted soils to allow vegetation access to subsoil moisture
    • Planting trees to provide for aesthetics, ecosystem diversity and stabilization of soils
    • Planting riparian vegetation for streambank stabilization
    • Other streambank stabilizing techniques, as necessary
    • Constructing stairs at the watercraft take-out
    • Constructing and delineating paths throughout the property and discouraging users from treading on vegetation outside of designated areas
