Firewise Event: Volunteers Needed

September 23-24, 2023 @ 9 AM

Background on Firewise

The PRA was awarded a Valley County $2,000 Firewise grant to reduce fuel loads on the river property adjacent to PR1 and PR2 subdivisions. These funds are insufficient to treat the whole property so this year’s work will be focus on an area identified as having the highest fuel load. Wes Keller and Judy Secrist from the PRA met with Ryan Garber from McCall fire department and toured the property, the following plan was put together. The area highlighted in yellow on the map below will be where we spend the bulk of our time removing, thinning and limbing up trees.

Logistics

On September 23rd and 24th we need volunteers to help implement this firewise plan. For safety reasons, the felling of trees will occur on the September 22nd so on the 23rd and 24th will just be the limbing of downed trees and piling slash. For individuals willing to help, the gate will be unlocked on those dates identified in the table below. If you have access to a trailer it would be useful for moving slash to the chipper. We plan to start at 9 am on both days.

All individuals wanting to help will need to have safety glasses, gloves, proper clothing and know how to use a hand saw or chainsaw. Those that do not have chainsaw experience can help pile slash.

If you are interested in helping, please contact Wes Keller at 850-291-1941 or wesleyk@nezperce.org
